Welcome back to Episode 2 of the brand new Career Dreaming Job Search Podcast! One of the biggest reasons I created Career Dreaming was to help out job seekers in any way I possibly could, utilizing my past experience as a technology recruiter, to offer guidance from a former “hiring insider’s” perspective. In my opinion, a great way for me to assist individuals needing help is to directly answer their questions in any medium available.

That desire to help job seekers is exactly why I put this episode together following a Reddit AMA I did about a month ago. There were a number of great questions posed in the thread, so I chose the ones that I thought were most relevant to every job seeker to assist your search as well.

Here are some of the questions that I discussed in Episode 2 of the Career Dreaming Job Search Podcast, discussed briefly below.

How do I optimize my LinkedIn Profile for recruiters

This was an excellent question that is highly relevant to not just immediate job seekers, but also someone who is happy at their current position. Optimizing your LinkedIn profile is an excellent way to receive more highly targeted opportunities from recruiters on LinkedIn and appear more often in searches. We break down the LinkedIn optimization methods in greater depth on the podcast!

What do I do if a recruiter is ignoring me?

Getting ignored by a recruiter is probably the biggest pet peeve of job candidates when dealing with recruiters and rightfully so! What do I do when a recruiter has initially reached out to me to schedule interviews and then the conversation ends there? We discuss some professional ways to approach the situation without seeming too pushy.

However, I do want to state again, that any recruiter that ignores your calls and emails after initially reaching out to you doesn’t have the degree of professional you deserve when approaching the job search. If we find people like this in the future, let’s avoid working with them!

How do I get into a software engineering role, with limited education in Computer Science?

This was an interesting question that had some relevance to my own personal experience, going from a technology recruiting position to working for a large enterprise software company in sales and pre-sales consulting. There are a few recommendations that I put forth regarding how to improve your abilities, without having to go back to school for further formal education.

I hope that this podcast was helpful for everyone listening. If you have your own questions, please don’t hesitate to send them into my email at [email protected]!
