Ep3 of the Career Dreaming Job Search Podcast

I’m pumped to be back today with Episode 3 of the Career Dreaming Job Search Podcast, “5 quick job interview tips”. This podcast episode is a deep dive into exactly why you should be doing these steps and how they will assist you in preparation towards your end goal, finding your dream career. While these 5 simple job interview tips are just that, simple… They can make a huge impact on how you are perceived by your interviewers and your ultimate success.

Please listen to the podcast on the player below or check us out on iTunes and Stitcher Radio.

Review the podcast please?

I ain’t too proud to beg! I’m kidding, but seriously, reviews and ratings in the iTunes and Stitcher podcast store are vital to how many people are exposed to the information in the Career Dreaming Job Search podcast.

If you would be so kind as to leave an honest review of my podcast, I’d GREATLY appreciate it. Whether it’s complimentary, a thorough critique or just plain mean, it all helps me get better and serve the Career Dreamers in the best way possible.

Episode 3 Resources

As promised, I’ve listed a number of resources that are complimentary to the 5 quick job interview tips below.

1. Dress professional (over-dressing is better than under-dressing)

Here are a few detailed YouTube videos to help out with your interview attire, in case you need a more visual reference than simple advice over the podcast. You’ll find below a video for both men and women as the attire expectations can be a bit different. In general, I would always recommend over-dressing, rather than under-dressing for the occasion, but if you’re super nervous and don’t know what to do, just ask the recruiter before the interview!

2. Bring a nice notepad/portfolio with your resume and note paper

Below I’ve included a few of the more popular executive portfolios that are sold on Amazon. You certainly don’t have to go overboard here with a $100 leather portfolio, but I’d recommend spending at least $15 on a basic looking executive portfolio to get the job done.

3. Perform in-depth research on the company

The key to performing in-depth research on the company is to truly scour the internet for every bit of relevant content you can find. As I discussed in the episode, make use of all of your resources including the company website (About us page, executive leadership page, company blog, etc), YouTube channels and Google News.

4. Prepare 10 questions ahead of time

Prior to your job interview, I would absolutely recommend preparing about 10 questions ahead of time. I highly recommend this, especially for people who aren’t necessarily “quick thinkers”, because it helps to provide you with a conversation piece when the inevitable, “So…. What questions do you have for me?” comes out of your interviewers mouth.

These questions can really be on any subject, and you can be as general or as specific as you’d like when asking your interviewer questions. To make your life easier, here questions below that you can prepare ahead of time.

Can you tell me about your own personal journey with XYZ company so far?
What do you expect from people within this role on a day-to-day basis?
What are the plans for growth at the company?
What are common qualities or traits of the most successful people at your company?

Just make sure that you have your questions written down on a piece of paper and readily accessible, so you can glance down and fire them off quickly!

5. Collect everyone’s business card and send a “Thank You” email

The final, important step in the interview process. Make sure that you write a thorough “Thank You” email to everyone that you spoke with. This is a crucial step in the process and one that goes to show your professionalism as a candidate and future work ethic. Even if you end up not getting the position, this is a great step to build future connections for opportunities down the road!

Conclusion

Do you have any questions for your next job interview or any quick tips of your own? Please feel free to share them with me, because as you know, the entire goal of Career Dreaming is to assist job candidates in their pursuit for career greatness. Don’t hold back, let’s do this together!

You can provide me any feedback or ask any questions by shooting me an email at [email protected] or sounding off in the comments section. I’ll get back to you as soon as I possibly can!
